Turtle Back Zoo

Turtle Back Zoo is a zoo in West Orange, New Jersey. Situated on 20 acres in the South Mountain Reservation. In 2021, the zoo announced that for the first time in its history – a Linneaus’s two-toed sloth was born on the premises. Linnaeus’s sloths are found throughout the northern countries of South America.

Sloths

In addition to its dazzling beaches and lush rainforests, Costa Rica is famous for its adorable sloths. Sloths are mammals that spend most of their lives upside down in the trees of Central America and South American rainforests. They are famous for moving slowly, which gives them a low metabolic rate. There are two kinds of sloths Costa Rica: the two-toed and the three-toed sloth. While the two-toed sloth is nocturnal and can mainly be spotted at night, the three-toed sloth prefers to be awake during daytime.
