Saint-Sophia Cathedral

The Saint Sophia Cathedral in Kyiv, Ukraine, is an 11th-century UNESCO World Heritage site, renowned as a premier example of Byzantine architecture and the oldest stone temple in Eastern Europe. Designed in the Byzantine style, the cathedral is 29 meters high and noted for its artistic, intricate mosaics and frescoes along with over 7,000 ancient inscriptions. The architecture and monumental art of the Cathedral had a wide influence on the architecture and decoration of the Kyivan Rus’ temples.

Odesa

The Historic Center of Odesa, part of the Black Sea port city, is a densely built-up area, planned according to classicism canons, characterized by two- to four-storey buildings and wide perpendicular streets lined with trees. Historic buildings reflect the rapid economic development of the city in the 19th and early 20th centuries. The site includes theatres, bridges, monuments, religious buildings, schools, private palaces and tenement houses, clubs, hotels, banks, shopping centres, warehouses, stock exchanges and other public and administrative buildings. Eclecticism is the dominant feature of the historic city centre’s architecture. The site bears witness to the city’s highly diverse ethnic and religious communities, representing an outstanding example of intercultural exchanges and the growth of multicultural and multi-ethnic Eastern European cities of the 19th century.

Lutsk

Lutsk is situated on the Styr River in a picturesque part of western Ukraine, among forests, lakes and orchards of Volhynia. It is one of the oldest Ukrainian cities. Lutsk was a melting pot of different cultures whose presence is reflected in the rich architecture of the Old Town, considered to be a national heritage. The city’s most valuable historic architecture is represented also by numerous churches, mainly the 14th century Pokrovsk Orthodox Church and the Vozdvizhensk Orthodox Church as well as the cathedral and Renaissance synagogue from the 17th century and the 14th century Lutsk Castle with a city gate.

Shevchenko’s grove

Shevchenko Grove is situated on the wooded hills near Lviv's prominent park High Castle.  Here, on the territory of 60 hectares, museum's creators placed over 120 architectural sites and a bulk of folk life objects, which were brought here from Western Ukraine's various corners. In doing so they skillfully used natural relief that is surprisingly reminiscent of Carpathian landscapes. The whole territory of the museum of folk architecture and life is provisionally divided into six historical and ethnographical zones: Boykovshchina, Lemkivshchina, Guzulshchina, Bukovina, Podillia and Lvivshchina. Each of them is a mini-village with all attributes of 18th-19th centuries' country life that were typical for one or another Western Ukraine's people. Shevchenko's Grove's architectural complex consists of ancient huts and household buildings, churches, smithy, sawmill, water and wind mills.

Patron

Patron is a detection dog and mascot for the State Emergency Service of Ukraine. He is a Jack Russell Terrier and was born on 20 July 2019. Patron first came to prominence during the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, during which Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy awarded him the Order for Courage for his work in locating and defusing unexploded ordnance left behind by Russian troops. As of 8 May 2022, Patron has found 236 such devices.

Holy Trinity Church

Despite the fact that Zhovkva, located near the city of Lviv, is a very small town, it is rich in interesting monuments of architecture. One of them is the Church of the Holy Trinity,  a beautiful wooden church built in 1720. This is an outstanding monument of architecture and monumental art of the Galician school. The structure consists of three wooden naves and a brick sacristy.

St. George's Cathedral

St. George's Cathedral is a baroque-rococo cathedral located in the city of Lviv, the historic capital of western Ukraine. It was constructed between 1744-1760 on a hill overlooking the city. The monument to Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytsky in Lviv's St. George Square is located on the square.

The Swallow's Nest

The Swallow's Nest is a decorative castle located at Gaspra, a small spa town between Yalta and Alupka, in the Crimean Peninsula. It was built between 1911 and 1912, on top of the 40-metre  high Aurora Cliff, in a Neo-Gothic design. The castle overlooks the Cape of Ai-Todor on the Black Sea coast and is located near the remains of the Roman castrum of Charax. The Swallow's Nest is one of the most popular visitor attractions in Crimea, having become the symbol of Crimea's southern coastline.

Flags of the World - Ukraine

The Ukrainian flag was adopted in 1992. A modern interpretation of the meaning of the colours is blue represents the sky, and yellow symbolises the lush golden wheat fields of the Steppes plains. The combination of blue and yellow as a symbol of Ukrainian lands comes from the flag of the Kingdom of Galicia–Volhynia used in the 12th century.

Ancient City of Tauric Chersonese and its Chora

The Ancient City of Tauric Chersonese and its Chora covers an archaeological site and agricultural landscape of Greek origin. It is located on a peninsula in Crimea, at the shores of the northern Black Sea. It was colonized by the Greeks in the 5th century BC and used as a trading port. Wine, produced locally, was one of the main export products.The Chersonese is a unique monument of antiquity on the territory of modern Ukraine. It is recognized as one of Seven Wonders of Ukraine and was listed to the UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

CCUN - Ukraine

CCUN Ukraine with view of Kyiv River Port, the main river port of Kiev, located on the right bank of the Dnieper River in the Podil neighborhood of the city. Since ancient times the Podil neighborhood was an important trade center, especially by water routes.  Around the 19th century, steamboats started to navigate along the Dnieper, and a row of quays were built along the Right Bank of the river.

St Sophia Cathedral
