La Salute

November 20, 2025

Santa Maria della Salute, commonly known simply as La Salute, is a Roman Catholic church and minor basilica in the city of Venice. It stands on the narrow finger of Punta della Dogana, between the Grand Canal and the Giudecca Canal, at the Bacino di San Marco, making the church visible when entering the Piazza San Marco from the water. The Salute is a vast, octagonal building with two domes and a pair of picturesque bell-towers at the back. Built on a platform made of 1,000,000 wooden piles, it is constructed of Istrian stone and marmorino. At the apex of the pediment stands a statue of the Virgin Mary who presides over the church which was erected in her honour.

Canal Grande

June 10, 2020

The Grand Canal is a channel in Venice, Italy. It forms one of the major water-traffic corridors in the city.  One end of the canal leads into the lagoon near the Santa Lucia railway station and the other end leads into the basin at San Marco. In between, it makes a large reverse-S shape through the central districts of Venice. It is 3.8 km long, and 30 to 90 m  wide, with an average depth of 5 metres.

Thanks Edo for another wonderful card from Venice!

From Venice

December 31, 2019

Piazza San Marco is the city’s main public square and contains its most famous buildings such as St Mark’s Basilica and the Doge's Palace. Piazza San Marco is in the heart of Venice. It is 180 m long and 70 m wide, and is the only piazza in Venice, since the rest of the squares are called piazzales or campos.

Ponte di Rialto

August 19, 2012

The Rialto Bridge (Italian: Ponte di Rialto) is one of the four bridges spanning the Grand Canal in Venice, Italy. It is the oldest bridge across the canal, and was the dividing line for the districts of San Marco and San Polo. Venice is a place I've always wanted to visit so thank you very much for offering this card Edo.
