Death Valley sand dunes

August 13, 2021

The wind-sculpted sand dunes of Death Valley are an active world of exciting contrasts and wonders. The 14-square-mile area consists of eroded quartz particles found in the nearby mountains and carried here by the prevailing winds. The primary source of this sand is believed to be the Cottonwood Mountains to the west and northwest.
