From Burgers' Zoo
January 16, 2024
A North American porcupine from Burgers' Zoo, a 45-hectare zoo in Arnhem, one of the biggest zoos in the country. This animal species has only been on display at Burgers' Zoo since 2022. Together with the black-tailed prairie dogs, they inhabit the largest enclosure in this recreated American desert. North American tree porcupines have about 30,000 quills that are partly hidden in the long fur of these animals. This also gives the animal a less spiky appearance than the porcupine species found in Africa and Asia.
