Listed as an historic monument, the Saint-Martin church of Layrac, in Lot-et-Garonne, takes place on a terrace overlooking the countryside, along the Gers. Built in the 11th and 12th centuries and consecrated by Pope Urban II, it takes the form of a very simple plan with a single very wide nave, an apse and a transept with short arms. The whole is also topped with a dome mounted on pendants and is considered a true masterpiece of 12th century Romanesque art.
Layrac is located in Brulhois, a region in northern Gascony, and is located 10 kilometers south of Agen, in south-western France. This village with its rich heritage was an important medieval city thanks in particular to its inland waterways on the Gers and the Garonne.
