Somiedo Natural Park

August 24, 2024

Somiedo Natural Park is a protected area located in the central area of the Cantabrian Mountains. As well as being designated a natural park, it is protected as a Special Area of Conservation, and as one of a number of Biosphere Reserves in the Cantabrian mountains. The typical buildings 'teitos' in Somiedo are cabins scattered throughout the mountains, or in clusters in meadows. The roof is covered with broom, a wild shrub from the area. The cabins are used by shepherds as lodgings, barns or stables.
