Genbudo Park is a geological site and national natural monument in Toyooka City, Hyogo Prefecture. It is famous for its basalt caves with dramatic hexagonal and polygonal columnar joint formations, which were formed by volcanic activity 1.6 million years ago. The park includes five caves, named after Chinese mythological creatures, with trails for walking and viewing the rock formations. Genbudo Park was designated in 1931 as a National Natural Monument by the Japanese Government due to their significant role in the discovery of reverse magnetization, and the impressive caves are also part of the San’in Kaigan UNESCO Global Geopark.
