Jim Corbett National Park

Bengal tiger is one of the biggest wild cats alive today. It is the national animal of India. Only fewer than 2.500 individuals were known to exist around 2011. It is threatened by poaching, loss and fragmentation of habitat. Photographed in Corbett National Park. IUCN status - Endangered.

Jim Corbett National Park is a forested wildlife sanctuary in northern India’s Uttarakhand State. Rich in flora and fauna, it’s known for its Bengal tigers. Animals, including tigers, leopards and wild elephants, roam the Dhikala zone. On the banks of the Ramganga Reservoir, the Sonanadi zone is home to elephants and leopards, along with hundreds of species of birds.

Chapada dos Veadeiros National Park

The Pampas deer is one of the iconic, near-threatened large mammals that roam the open grasslands and Cerrado savanna of Chapada dos Veadeiros National Park. Alongside the marsh deer, it is a highlight for wildlife spotting. The park is listed as a World Natural Heritage Site by UNESCO for being an outstanding preservation area of the Cerrado, one of the world's oldest and most diverse tropical ecosystems. It's located in the state of Goiás, on the top of an ancient plateau and is noted for its waterfalls. Itis renowned for its breathtaking landscapes, rich biodiversity, and significant geological formations.

Lower Yellowstone Falls

The Lower Yellowstone Falls of the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone National Park.
The falls are 308 ft tall, nearly twice as high as Niagara Falls. Water flow over the falls can be as high as 8.400 cu ft/c during peak runoff.

Tropical Rainforest Heritage of Sumatra

The 2.5 million hectare Tropical Rainforest Heritage of Sumatra site comprises three national parks: Gunung Leuser National Park, Kerinci Seblat National Park and Bukit Barisan Selatan National Park. The site holds the greatest potential for long-term conservation of the distinctive and diverse biota of Sumatra, including many endangered species. The protected area is home to an estimated 10,000 plant species, including 17 endemic genera; more than 200 mammal species; and some 580 bird species of which 465 are resident and 21 are endemic. Of the mammal species, 22 are Asian, not found elsewhere in the archipelago and 15 are confined to the Indonesian region, including the endemic Sumatran orang-utan. The site also provides biogeographic evidence of the evolution of the island.

Sümela Monastery

Sümela Monastery is a dramatic, 1,600-year-old Greek Orthodox complex built directly into a steep cliff face in the Pontic Mountains of northeastern Turkey. Perched roughly 1,200 meters above sea level inside the Altındere Valley National Park, it is located about 47 kilometers south of the coastal city of Trabzon. Dedicated to the Virgin Mary, this iconic site is currently featured on UNESCO's Tentative World Heritage list and serves as one of the Black Sea region's most prominent cultural and historic landmarks.

Tongariro National Park

The Emerald Lakes are a group of small lakes in Tongariro National Park, named for their distinctive colour. Tongariro National Park, located in the central North Island, is the oldest national park in New Zealand and the sixth national park established in the world. It has been recognised by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site for its mixed cultural and natural values. The mountains at the heart of the park have cultural and religious significance for the Maori people and symbolize the spiritual links between this community and its environment. The park has active and extinct volcanoes, a diverse range of ecosystems and some spectacular landscapes.

Nyungwe National Park

Nyungwe National Park lies in southwest Rwanda, partly abutting the Burundi border. It's a vast area of mountain rainforest, home to many species of chimpanzees, plus owl-faced and colobus monkeys. The Canopy Walkway, part of the Igishigishigi Trail, is a high suspension bridge with views over the valley and surrounding forests. A trail runs to the Kamiranzovu Marsh, with its birdlife, orchids and waterfall.
It is one of the oldest rainforests in Africa and was recently designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2023.

Shiretoko Peninsula

The Shiretoko Peninsula is located on the easternmost portion of the Japanese island of Hokkaido, protruding into the Sea of Okhotsk. It is separated from Kunashiri Island by the Nemuro Strait. It was registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2005, in recognition of the peninsula being the southernmost point where sea ice usually forms in the Northern Hemisphere. Shiretoko is one of the richest integrated ecosystems in the world. Encompassing both terrestrial and marine areas the property is located in the northeast of Hokkaido and is comprised of a part of the Shiretoko Peninsula, which protrudes into the Sea of Okhotsk and the surrounding marine areas.

Fort Jefferson is a massive 19th-century coastal fortress located on Garden Key in the Dry Tortugas National Park, roughly 113 km west of Key West, Florida. It is the largest all-masonry structure in the Western Hemisphere, constructed with more than 16 million bricks.

Kurobe Gorge

Kurobe Gorge is Japan's deepest V-shaped gorge, located in Toyama Prefecture's Northern Alps. Famous for the Kurobe Gorge Railway trolley train, it features stunning scenery, over 40 tunnels, 20 bridges, and secluded hot springs like Kuronagi. Operations generally run from April to November, with peak autumn colors in late October to early November. It flows down 86km in length and 3,000m in elevation. The bright red Shin Yamabiko Bridge marks the entrance to the Kurobe Gorge. With a length of 166 meters, it is the longest bridge to span the Kurobe River. The area was designated the Chūbu-Sangaku National Park.

Kakadu National Park

Burrunggui and Anbangbang Billabong, Kakadu National Park.

Anbangbang Billabong lies in the shadow of Burrunggui (Nourlangie Rock) within Kakadu National Park and is a good place to view a wide range of wildlife. Large numbers of waterfowl and wading birds inhabit the billabong and many wallabies can be found grazing around the water's edge.

Kakadu National Park is a living cultural landscape with exceptional natural and cultural values. Kakadu has been home to Aboriginal people for more than 50,000 years, and many of the park’s extensive rock art sites date back thousands of years. The largest national park in Australia and one of the largest in the world’s tropics, Kakadu preserves the greatest variety of ecosystems on the Australian continent including extensive areas of savanna woodlands, open forest, floodplains, mangroves, tidal mudflats, coastal areas and monsoon forests. The park also has a huge diversity of flora and is one of the least impacted areas of the northern part of the Australian continent. Its spectacular scenery includes landscapes of arresting beauty, with escarpments up to 330 metres high extending in a jagged and unbroken line for hundreds of kilometres.

Kalkalpen National Park

With its valuable old forests and primeval beech forests, Kalkalpen National Park is the most important national forest park in the Alps. More than 10,000 species of animals, plants and fungi can be found in these mixed deciduous forests dominated by beech trees. With an area of 5,252 hectares, Kalkalpen National Park is not only the largest beech forest reserve in the Alps, it is also home to the oldest beech tree with a proud age of over 550 years. Around half of the forest in Kalkalpen National Park is made up of deciduous forests. In addition to small-scale alluvial forests, swamp forests and ravine forests, these are mainly made up of beech forests.
